Religious Education (RE) at St Peter's

All students at St. Peter’s High School study Religious Education from year seven right the way through to year eleven. The programme followed is that approved by the Agreed Syllabus of Essex as interpreted by the school. The aims of Religious Education at St. Peter’s are twofold:

To open the world of religion to all students, helping them to discover a range of possibilities within that world and enabling them to relate this exploration to their own experience.
To assist students in their own search for identity, meaning and purpose. To help students clarify their personal stances in relation to a range of issues associated with religion.

Year 7

Year 8

Issues of Belief: People of Faith - Mother Teresa
Issues of Belief: Wealth & Poverty
Issues of Belief: Animal Rights
Issues of Belief: Crime & Punishment

Religious Education (RE) at GCSE

Years 10 & 11

Short Course GCSE - Edexcel 3480 – Unit B “Religion and life based on a study of Christianity”

Marriage and the Family
Social Harmony
Religion and the Media
Matters of Life and Death
Believing in God

Students will be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, and the ability to evaluate alternative points of view, in respect of the sections above.

Students can also follow the Full GCSE Course, comprising of Unit B and Unit H of the Edexcel Course.
