Mathematics is a subject which is taken by all students in year 7-11. It is one of the three core subjects which students have to follow. There are six specialist rooms for mathematics teaching and a mathematics IT room. Mathematics is normally taught for 3 hours a week.

Mathematics at Key Stage 3

Year 7

Pupils use the Maths Frameworking books covering a range of topics from using and applying mathematics, number, algebra, shape and space and data.

Year 8

In their second year studying mathematics pupils continue to use the Maths Frameworking books. The topics covered in Year 7 are revisited in greater depth.

Year 9

Pupils use the Maths Frameworking series of books to prepare for the Key Stage 3 SATS tests in May. These are very important and the results are used to formulate the sets for Year 10.

Mathematics at GCSE

Years 10 & 11

The OCR 1962 syllabus is the basis for this two year GCSE course. Students continue to study the broad areas they began in Year 7. They will be using the OCR Graduated Assessment text books and other resources. Apart from the end of course examination there will be two coursework tasks to be completed.
