Format of GCSE Science Examinations:
All Science exams year 10 and 11 students are entered for are ‘real’ GCSE’s and have a direct impact on the GCSE grade each student will achieve. There are no ‘mock’ or ‘practice’ science tests.
MODULES: There are 6 GCSE Science Module sessions during year 10 and 11 with exams in November, March and June of each year. These are real GCSE Exams, externally marked (students can re-sit if required). The grades are 'banked' and contribute to the final GCSE grade awarded in year 11.
IAA's: Students also sit IAA Science examinations these are usually 6 sessions over the 2 years (but this can differ depending on the student/level). These are real GCSE Exams, internally marked and externally moderated (students may not re-sit any IAA test). The grades are 'banked' and contribute to the final GCSE grade awarded in year 11.
To prepare for IAA's examinations, students conduct practical tests in their class and produce graphs which are then used during the IAA examinations.
