Aims of the Course
The study of English at Advanced Level (AQA Specification A: Advanced Subsidiary 5741 and Advanced 6741) encourages students to develop interest in and enjoyment of English Literature, through reading widely, critically and independently, across centuries, genre and gender, and through experience of an extensive range of views about texts and how to read them. The course is modular, allowing students to respond in a variety of ways. Texts are set by AQA but in the A2 course students are able to choose their own texts for comparison of Literary Connections. The English Faculty encourages and supports students not only to read widely but to refer to critical sources, participate actively within lessons, develop a range of key skills and to take part in educational visits to museums, historical sites and performances of plays.
