The theme of this term’s newsletter is one of celebration!  The range of student achievement is quite remarkable as St Peter’s goes from strength to strength.  Our young people are a credit to the school, to their parents, community & to themselves.

This year has been particularly special as it’s our 50th anniversary.  The events have been tremendously successful and are a credit to St Peter’s and its community.  Once again I pay tribute to the leadership of Pat Potten and her team including staff, Parents’ Association and members of the community.  The celebration events included:

  • the Burnham Museum exhibition, ably created by Henry Potten, who also wrote an informative and stimulating History of Education in the Dengie area
  • the Thanksgiving Service at St Mary’s, with readings and performances representing 50 years of the school, including headteachers representing 43 years of leadership!
  • the Day of Celebration, raising over £2,500 for our mini-bus fund
  • the remarkable Aerial photograph – thanks to the Burnham Standard
  • our Lower and Upper School Award evenings, with special 50th awards and presentations from the town mayor Carole Noble, chair of governors Peter Elliott, Rotary President Tony Martin, businesswoman Jan Smith, and teachers Paul Hunt, Gwyneth Hart and Jane Nichols.  The wide range of awards included academic, progress, contributions to the school & community, sport and special awards

Our unique range of memorabilia is for sale, all bearing Year 8 student Ellie Patmore’s winning logo design, and our booklet of memories.  We hope that there will be a CD of interviews recorded by Saint FM available next term.  In September there will be whole school photograph.

In my foreword to the memories booklet I wrote: ‘Our students will live in a very different world to us, just as we live in a very different world from 1958.  The role of St Peter’s is to prepare young people to make a positive difference in this time of rapidly change, to seize the opportunities available and always to remember that it is the quality of relationships that makes the difference to our lives and the life of the society we live in’
